Different Types of Website Navigation

As we have already mentioned in our blogs that, ‘Navigation’ is a key element of any website, it plays a key role in shaping our experiences on a site. When it comes to designing a website, navigation around a website is of the up-most significance, as it provides access to information in a way that enhances user experience, helps user browse a site easily, and assists user in finding all the necessary information effectively.

There are three main types of navigation that we will tell you in this blog.

1) Main navigation
2) Local navigation
3) Contextual navigation

1. Main Navigation
It divides the website content into a small number of menu options. Main navigation pages create a menu of navigation links on a website that visitors will use to discover your content. It lets users know where to start looking. The ‘Main Navigation’ menu features the most important links, like Home and Contact.

2. Local Navigation
A local navigation signifies sub-sections, groups and organizes the content inside its relevant section. Local navigation is the link within the text of a specified web page, linking to further pages in the website. Local navigation provides an easy and steady way to access precise pages within a section of a site.

3. Contextual Navigation
Contextual navigation menu is a pop-up menu that permits your viewers to move between interfaces.
You can also say that this type of navigation allows users to enter into different sections of a website. It is “contextual” for the reason that the menu options are relevant to what you click. Though, not all programs support contextual menus.

There are numerous other options for site navigation design. But these abovementioned are some major ones.
